Sergej Jovanovic is a painter and an art pedagogue, but above all he is deeply fond of art, a master of techniques, materials and soul of art. Is there anybody who hasn't heard about his famous school attended by thousands of all ages during the last thirty years? Some of these learners became eminent art creators and many of them are passionately devoted to art, so that without them our culture would be poorer if we hadn't their contributions. It is enough to say "with Sergej" and one will think immediately on marvellous surrounding of his atelier in Mira Popara Street, where every day during the whole year it is like in a beehive, a lot of children, young and grown up people under his careful watch discover secrets of art painting and at the same time, their own hidden inner capabilities and values that make life more beautiful and precious.

Sergej Jovanovic is now to be presented as a painter: he displays some of his watercolour paintings inspired by sea, light and infinity.

In watercolour painting technique, probably a most subtle one, Sergej became a master, superiorly revealing water turmoil, sunny areas of sandy beaches, geometry of architecture and wonderful rythms of green tree crowns. It is not only one of the ancient painting techniques, but a classical painting handling, founded on "translating" of what has been seen, real existing, into shapes and harmonies that conjure up in fancy a complete event, spontaneity and musical sense. I appointed to musical sensitivity because each of these watercolour paintings is based on the principle of great rythms reconciliation and their leveling to harmonic relations of colour, light, shape and space.

If we would like to define linguistic structure of his watercolour paintings more specifically, we would have to survey their poetical foundation made on the balance of rational and emotional. A shape is a consequence of a clash between world and spirit realities. In spite of a realistic vision, a shape bears deeply free passion for poetical happening. Though most of these paintings were credated like direct happening of reality, like impression, during their process of creation they got a distinction of some strong linguistic constructions that make the composition convincible and each detail firmly implanted into the whole. Such unique experience and linguistic certainty is neither casual nor unexpected in the case of Sergej Jovanovic. His creative experience breathes confidence, a sharp sense of harmony and balance laced with totally free expression of the highest subtlety.
